About the Role
Exalto Consulting are working with a healthcare/public sector client looking to bring in an experienced User Researcher to support the delivery of digital products and services.

This role will lead research across a product or service area, from discovery through to delivery. You will work closely with product, design, delivery and stakeholder teams to ensure decisions are grounded in strong qualitative and quantitative evidence.

The role will suit someone who is confident planning and running mixed-method research at pace, working with complex services, managing research ethics and consent, and turning evidence into clear, decision-ready insights. You will help de-risk product decisions through experimentation, synthesis and continuous learning.

What you will be doing

  • Leading user research across a product or service area from discovery through to delivery.
  • Planning and delivering multi-method research, including qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Running research at pace, including contextual research, field research, diary studies, longitudinal research and analytics triangulation.
  • Managing research data, consent, accessibility considerations and ethical research practices.
  • Integrating evidence from multiple sources to support product and service decisions.
  • Producing decision-ready synthesis, including insight frameworks, opportunity maps and journey evidence.
  • Designing and evaluating experiments, including prototypes, A/B testing and multivariate testing where appropriate.
  • Working closely with product managers, designers, analysts, delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Aligning stakeholders around user needs, evidence and research outcomes.
  • Coaching other researchers in appropriate methods and approaches.
  • Quality assuring research outputs, findings and stakeholder narratives.
  • Supporting teams to reduce delivery risk through evidence-led decision making.

What you will bring
  • Strong experience as a User Researcher within digital product or service delivery.
  • Experience leading research across the full life cycle, from discovery to delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to plan and deliver mixed-method research in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with contextual research, field research, diary studies or longitudinal research.
  • Ability to triangulate research findings with analytics and other data sources.
  • Strong synthesis skills, with the ability to turn complex evidence into clear, actionable insight.
  • Experience creating insight frameworks, journey evidence, opportunity maps or similar outputs.
  • Good understanding of research ethics, consent, data management and accessibility.
  • Experience designing or evaluating experiments, prototypes or A/B testing approaches.
  • Ability to engage, influence and align stakeholders around research evidence.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience coaching or supporting other researchers would be highly beneficial.

Useful experience
  • Experience working in healthcare, public sector or complex service environments.
  • Previous experience on user-centred design, service design or digital transformation programmes.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams.
  • Familiarity with Government Digital Service standards or public sector digital delivery practices.
  • Experience researching accessible and inclusive services.
  • Experience working on high-impact digital services with complex user journeys.
  • Strong understanding of how research supports product strategy, delivery prioritisation and risk reduction.
Summary
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced User Researcher to support a meaningful digital service within a healthcare/public sector environment.
