The Web Application Tester is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting test activities to ensure that web-based applications meet functional, performance, security, and usability requirements. The tester will work closely with developers, product owners, and system engineers to identify defects, validate fixes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of quality assurance processes. This is a junior (but not entry-level) position and holds that level of responsibility.
A web application tester is a professional who evaluates web applications to ensure they function correctly, are secure, and provide a good user experience. They perform various types of testing, such as functionality, performance, and security testing, to identify and fix issues before the application is released to users.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts for web-based applications.
Conduct functional, regression, integration, and system testing of new and existing software releases. Validate application behavior across browsers, devices, and operating systems. Identify, document, and track software defects using issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira, GitLab, or Azure DevOps). Collaborate with developers and system engineers to analyze test results and verify defect resolutions. Perform smoke and sanity testing during CI/CD deployments. Conduct API testing (REST/JSON) using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or curl. Validate compliance with security, accessibility (Section 508), and performance standards. Participate in test reviews, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies. Support automated testing initiatives and maintain regression test suites in Selenium, Cypress, or equivalent frameworks. Prepare detailed test reports and summarize findings for project leadership.
