Our Client, the Marine Institute in Oranmore, Galway, are looking for a temporary Website Content Specialist for 3 months initially with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
- Review and rewrite content across the entire website, ensuring a consistent tone, style and expression throughout.
- Create new web content where required, based on agreed structures, briefs and organisational needs.
- Edit and refine content using plain English principles, while accurately representing scientific and technical information.
- Ensure all content is fully compliant with accessibility standards, including clear language, logical structure and user-focused presentation.
- Prepare content in both raw draft format and WordPress designed templates, in line with the new website structure.
- Work closely with the core website development team - members of the internal Website Working Group from across the organisation, and the external web development agency - to align content with design, structure and functionality. Incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders while maintaining editorial consistency and quality. Apply web writing best practice (e.g. scannable content, headings, concise copy).
- Any other duties required from time to time as relevant to the role and salary point.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience / Competence / Capability Requirements
- Proven experience writing and editing web content, ideally for large or complex websites.
- Demonstrated ability to work with technical or scientific content and present it clearly for non specialist audiences.
- Demonstrate strong IT skills, with the ability to learn quickly and work confidently across multiple HR systems and Microsoft 365 tools (MS Office, Teams, SharePoint etc.).
- A communications or content specialist with strong editorial skills.
- Strong understanding of Plain English writing, accessibility requirements for digital content, and best practice for public facing websites. Comfortable working collaboratively in a cross organisational project team.
- Confident liaising with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers/agencies.
- Well organised, detail oriented and able to work to tight project timelines.
- The candidate must be fluent in the English language.
- Ideally will bring a background in communications, with some experience in science, research, environmental, regulatory or public sector organisations.
