Our consultancy client are working with a major bank in the development of their faster payments gateway. We are looking for an engineering lead to lead and guide the development of a cloud hosted, microservices based payment system. You must have worked extensively in payments be hands on technically and extensive technical leadership experience in a modern Agile delivery environment. You will be working closely with the testing lead to ensure robust, scaleable and secure software solutions.

You will lead the design and delivery of complex software projects in the Payments domain and drive the implementation of cloud-hosted microservices using Spring Boot and other modern frameworks. Champion Agile methodologies, leading sprints, retrospectives, and planning sessions to ensure continuous delivery and embed automation and CI/CD pipelines into daily development workflows for high-quality, repeatable releases. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to a team of engineers across multiple initiatives and align with product management and stakeholders to meet business goals and timelines. You will report up to overall Lab Engineering Lead and overall Payments Platform lead and focus on your ability to lead on longer term improvements / efficiencies in the lab’s engineering strategy, ways of working and resilience, leadership in overseeing and streamlining operational processes within the team while ensuring compliance with overall company goals and standards.

You will need hands-on experience in developing and scaling payment systems or similar transaction-heavy platforms within banking and be proficient in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architecture. With a deep understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure) and cloud-native patterns and a strong grasp of CI/CD, DevOps automation, and infrastructure-as-code principles.

For this role you can be based in either London or Edinburgh and will need to be in the office 2-3 days a week and the role will be inside IR35.
