Kootenay Lake Ferry Service Western Pacific Marine Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Marine Transportation Operations Manager (NOC 70020) to oversee and manage the operations of the Kootenay Lake Ferry Service. The successful candidate will act as the companys senior representative with full authority to supervise the ferry service, liaise with the Province of British Columbia, and legally represent the company in all matters connected to the Ferry Service and the Contract. This is a full-time, permanent leadership position offering the opportunity to make a lasting impact on marine transportation in British Columbia. Vacancy: 1 Start Date of Employment (Approx.): As soon as possible Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Work Location: Kootenay Lake Ferry Service, British Columbia (Balfour/Kootenay Bay) Business address: 501 Denman St. Vancouver St. B.C V6G 2W9 Wage rate: $58.00 per hour, overtime will start after 40 hours per week Benefits: Extended health and dental benefits Job Duties: Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate all ferry operations, including vessels and terminals. Ensure compliance with the Canada Shipping Act 2001, Worker Compensation Act, Health Canada, Lloyds Register, relevant labour codes, and the Collective Agreement. Oversee vessel and terminal maintenance, dispatch, service scheduling, and daily operations. Manage departmental budgets, acquisitions, and operational resources. Monitor company performance, conduct internal audits, and prepare reports for senior management and the Province. Lead operational scheduling, including development of yearly ferry schedules, and implement process improvements. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Captains, Chief Engineers, Mates, Assistant Managers, and other staff. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and positive workplace environment. Represent the company in Joint Labour Management (JLM) meetings, union negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations in collaboration with the BCGEU. Maintain effective communication with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI), providing timely reports on deficiencies, service impacts, and operational changes. Lead regular management and crew meetings, and oversee reviews of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Eligibility/Requirements: English language Education: Bachelors degree in a marine-related field or a Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (required). Experience: Several years of progressively responsible experience in marine transportation, including ferry or vessel operations management. Knowledge: Strong understanding of marine regulations, vessel operations, safety management systems, and labour relations.
