Assistant Finance Director LHH Recruitment Solutions is looking for an Assistant Finance Director in the Cincinnati Ohio area. The Assistant Finance Director supports the overall management and operations of the Finance Department for a local municipality. This position assists in overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, tax administration, and compliance while supervising staff across multiple finance-related divisions. The role works closely with leadership to ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and efficient delivery of services to the community. This position is permanent placement and will pay between $90K and $130K annually depending on experience. Job Duties:
  • Assist in managing daily operations of the Finance Department, including accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Provide oversight and support for municipal income tax administration, including individual, business, and transient occupancy taxes
  • Contribute to the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, including revenue forecasting and expenditure tracking
  • Prepare and review financial reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations
  • Support general ledger activity, monthly and year-end close processes, and financial statement preparation
  • Oversee revenue collection processes, ensuring timely and accurate billing, collections, and postings
  • Help establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard municipal assets and ensure proper financial procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations, reporting requirements, and legal standards
  • Assist with audits by coordinating documentation, responding to inquiries, and implementing recommendations
  • Support purchasing functions, including review of expenditures, procurement processes, and vendor compliance
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight
  • Collaborate with other departments, leadership, and external partners to support financial operations and initiatives
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a municipal or public sector environment
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Experience with municipal income tax administration and compliance strongly preferred
  • Understanding of internal controls, auditing standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a public-sector setting
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal teams, leadership, and the community
