Job Title: Java Developer
Rate: £400 (Inside IR35)
Duration: 6 months
Location: Remote with occasional visits
Clearance: BPSS
Stages: 1 Stage
Start Date: August

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality Java applications.
  • Build secure, scalable, and maintainable microservices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Solution Architects.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs.
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Work within Agile Scrum teams, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java (Java 11+ preferred).
  • Experience building Spring Boot applications.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API development.
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Experience using Git for version control.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Kafka or other messaging technologies.
  • Familiarity with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience using Maven or Gradle.
  • Previous experience working within UK Government or other public sector organisations.
  • Understanding of secure software development practices.

Clearance
