Our client is seeking a Postgre Data Architect to lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise-scale PostgreSQL data platforms on AWS, with strong expertise in Change Data Capture (CDC) and Real Time data integration, including Legacy database modernisation from DB2 to PostgreSQL.

Key Responsibilities

• Define migration strategies from DB2 to PostgreSQL on AWS, ensuring data integrity, scalability, and operational excellence
• Design CDC pipelines (IBM CDC tools where needed) - subscriptions, bookmarks, resync, backfill/replay strategies
• Translate DB2 schemas to Aurora PostgreSQL - logical/physical models, data types, referential integrity, denormalization decisions
• Design integration pipelines: DB2 - CDC - Kafka/S3 - Aurora with UPSERT/MERGE patterns, idempotency, ordering, and delivery semantics
• Manage data encoding/type transformations (EBCDIC- UTF-8, packed decimal/binary numerics) with deterministic validation test suites
• Oversee migration tooling: schema conversion, Glue/Athena/Redshift for downstream analytics, IaC (Terraform), CI/CD (GitLab)
• Define cutover and controls: dual-run validation, reconciliation, rollback plans, lineage, masking, encryption, IAM
• Establish observability - lag, throughput, error rate, and cost dashboards (CloudWatch/Grafana), runbooks and alerting

What You Will Ideally Bring

• CDC design and operations experience (IBM, Precisely, or equivalent), including subscription management, bookmarks, replay, and backfill
• DB2 and z/OS knowledge - catalog, batch windows, performance considerations
• Strong PostgreSQL/Aurora data modelling - normalization, indexing, partitioning, OLTP vs analytics trade-offs
• Hands-on integration pattern experience (Kafka, CDC-to-target pipelines, UPSERT/MERGE), Python/SQL
• Logical and physical data modelling (ERDs, 1NF-BCNF, SCD types, dimensional vs transactional schemas)
